What RTP actually measures
RTP is the percentage of all money staked that a game is designed to pay back across millions of rounds. The rest, 100% minus RTP, is the house edge.
It is a long-run average for the game as a whole, not a prediction for your session. Short sessions can land far above or below it.

A worked example
Suppose you play a slot with a 96% RTP at RM1 per spin for 500 spins.
- Total staked is 500 spins multiplied by RM1, which is RM500.
- The house edge is 100% minus 96%, which is 4%.
- The expected cost over the session is 4% of RM500, about RM20.
- Your actual result could be a large win or a loss of most of your budget, because the expected cost is an average.

Volatility and the shape of results
Two games with the same RTP can feel completely different because of volatility, sometimes called variance.
| Volatility | How wins arrive | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Low | Frequent small wins, rare big ones | Longer sessions on a small budget |
| Medium | A balance of regular and occasional larger wins | Players who want some of both |
| High | Long dry spells broken by rare large wins | Larger budgets and patience for swings |

Where to find the figures
Many studios publish RTP inside the game panel, and some show a volatility rating as stars or a scale. At Siti88, use the figure in the game itself, since studios can supply different RTP versions to different sites.
Live and table games have a house edge set by their rules, such as about 2.7% for European roulette, rather than a separate RTP setting.

Using RTP and volatility sensibly
These numbers help you choose, but they do not make a game a good bet.
- Prefer the higher RTP version when the same game is offered in more than one.
- Match volatility to your budget so a dry spell does not end the session early.
- Remember that wagering requirements on bonuses add to the real cost of play.
- Never treat a high RTP as a reason to stake more than you planned.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Does a 97% RTP slot pay more than a 94% one?
Over a very large number of spins it returns more of the money staked. In a single short session either game can pay more, because volatility dominates short-term results.
Can RTP change while I am playing?
The theoretical RTP is fixed in the game version the operator installed and does not adjust to your wins or losses. It cannot be changed mid-session to target a player.
Is high volatility bad?
Not in itself; it just means results swing more. It can drain a small budget before a big win arrives, so it suits players who accept that risk.
